Due to shifts in the dental industry and the impacts of the pandemic, there have been changes in our process for registering NHS patients.
When a patient enquires about registering as an NHS patient, they will initially visit our practice for a consultation to determine if any dental treatment is necessary. All patients in Scotland are accepted onto the treating dentist’s list at the dentist’s discretion. Due to changes in NHS funding, we need to ensure patients are dentally fit before NHS registration can be provided. If a patient requires extensive dental work, it will need to be conducted privately.
The main difference between NHS and private treatment is that NHS treatment lies in the fact that NHS treatment focuses on clinically necessary procedures to maintain oral functionality. Therefore, some dental work may not be covered by the NHS that we can provide on a private basis. Each treatment plan is individual, and it is best to discuss the available NHS and private options with your dentist.
Our commitment is always to deliver 5-star dental care to all our patients, and we strive to provide both NHS and private dentistry services to the best of our ability within our local community.
Who is entitled to FREE NHS dental care in Scotland?
- Patients who are under 18 years old
- Patients aged 18 and in full-time education
- Patients who are pregnant
- Patients who have had a baby in the last 12 months
- Patients who receive income support or certain other benefits
